Transit times
Hong Kong to the UK, Germany, France and the Middle East: working days to warehouse by channel
The table follows VSON’s current warehouse-arrival measurement for each route, in working days. Values are indicative ranges under normal clearance; allow extra buffer beyond the upper end in peak season.
| Channel | GB United Kingdom | DE Germany | FR France | ME Middle East | Suited to |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Air Air express | 5–8 | 6–10 | 6–8 | 3–6 | Urgent stock, out-of-stock recovery, high-value samples |
| Air Air standard | 8–12 | 10–15 | 10–15 | 5–9 | Launches, test batches, small to medium lots |
| Sea Sea FCL | 25–30 | 30–38 | 28–35 | 20–30 | Bulk replenishment |
| Sea Sea LCL | 28–35 | on request | 30–38 | 25–35 | Smaller lots and multi-SKU consignments |
| Rail China–Europe rail | — | 18–25 | — | — | Middle ground on time and cost; direct to Duisburg |
| Road Road freight | — | 20–28 | — | — | Door to door with flexible departures |
Unit: working days. Warehouse-arrival basis: counted from trunk departure (vessel sailing, flight departure or train dispatch) until customs release in the destination country and signed receipt at the FBA or third-party warehouse. Includes destination customs clearance; excludes Hong Kong collection, consolidation and booking lead time, and excludes Amazon appointment and check-in.
Measurement
“How many days” is not measured the same way by everyone
The same shipment can be quoted a week or two apart by different forwarders, usually not from exaggeration but from different start and end points. Align the measurement before comparing.
| Measurement | Counts from | Counts to |
|---|---|---|
| This site (warehouse arrival) | Trunk departure: sailing, take-off or train dispatch | Signed receipt at FBA or warehouse after customs release |
| Port to port / airport to airport | As above | Stops at berthing or landing; excludes clearance and delivery |
| Door to warehouse | Collection day in Hong Kong or the mainland | Warehouse receipt; adds consolidation and booking lead time |
| Available for sale | Trunk departure | Amazon check-in and listing; adds appointment slots and processing |
Three questions for any quoted lead time
- From which day? The collection day or the day the cargo actually sails or flies. In peak season the gap can be several days of booking lead time.
- Does it include destination clearance? Under DDP the forwarder declares and clearance time is included; with own-account clearance or transport-only, clearance speed is on you.
- Does it include the FBA appointment? Arrival at the dock and “available” in Amazon’s system are two different points, separated by appointment slots and check-in.
Variables
Why actual times vary
-
Trunk mode
Air is fastest, rail and road sit in the middle, sea is slowest; some Asia–Europe services still route via the Cape of Good Hope.
-
Clearance
Accurate declarations with complete documents clear quickly; mismatched descriptions or values trigger inspections and days of delay.
-
Peak season and space
Capacity is tight before Black Friday, Christmas and Lunar New Year, with rolled cargo possible; add days beyond the upper end.
-
Last-mile distance
Remote areas and overseas departments add a day or two over major-city warehouses; FBA slots affect final listing.
-
Holidays
Customs, ports and deliveries pause over Lunar New Year, Christmas and Easter; plan ahead for shipments that straddle holidays.
-
Cargo attributes
Battery, magnetic, liquid and textile goods need dedicated channels and extra checks, with less space and usually slightly longer transit.
Planner
Latest dispatch date
Choose the destination, channel and warehouse deadline; the tool works back using the channel’s upper limit to the latest working day for trunk departure. It excludes Hong Kong collection, consolidation and booking lead time and does not deduct public holidays; allow a further 5–7 working days in practice.
